To grow the tour and travel segment of New York Water Taxi’s (NYWT) business, Tom led the acquisition of internationally known Circle Line Downtown in 2009. This competing company had a long-term docking agreement and ticketing facility at South Street Seaport Museum on a pier adjacent to NYWT. The acquisition gave NYWT an exclusive presence at this popular tourist attraction and provided significant benefits for both companies.
Circle Line Downtown’s 600-passenger, high-speed aluminum catamaran, Zephyr, and 149-passenger thrill ride, Shark, greatly expanded NYWT’s flexibility and capacity. This expansion created significant economies in sales and marketing, maintenance, and operations. In addition, it strengthened the combined companies' presence in the lower Manhattan market.
